ProfessionalGoals and Self-assessment
ClinicalPracticum is designed in a way that students can apply what they havelearned in class and use their analytical skills in dealing with dayto day issues that nurses face. This enables a nurse to get a uniqueopportunity to develop and enhance leadership skills. As a nurse, myprofessional goals are confined in love and compassion. Thus, I seekto be competent to provide the best quality care and services as Ican to any patient that seeks help or attention within my field withregard to ethical and legal issues (Garg, Prabakar, Tang, & Bral,2016).
Eachtime I am out there in the field, I try my level best to learn andapply procedures that are usually applied in dealing with patients’problems from their fears, anxiety and pain. I have realized thatpatients need not only the physical treatment but also an emotionalone. When you encourage patients to have a positive attitude towardstreatment, they respond well to the recovery process, unlike thosewho feel demotivated (Hawkins, Osborne, Schofield, Pournaras &Chester, 2012). When doing that, I remember to respect the dignity, uniqueness and worthiness of others, because how I communicatematters a lot.
Also,I have dedicated my attention to learning how to use and operate someof the hospital equipment in my field as I attend professionaladvancement programs. Thus, the knowledge I have acquired both intheory and practice, helps me to grow professionally. Self-assessmentenables me to keep track of my career development as I reflect on mypersonal knowledge, and accuracy of skill performance about theprofessional goals I have set (Evans, McKenna & Oliver, 2002).
